IELTS “What is your opinion?” Essay

This type of essay asks you to give your personal view and support it with reasons and examples.

Structure:

• Introduction: Paraphrase the question + clearly state your opinion.
• Body 1: First reason for your opinion + explanation + example.
• Body 2: Second reason + explanation + example.
• Conclusion: Repeat your opinion and summarise your main reasons.

Easy formula:
Opinion → Reason 1 → Example → Reason 2 → Example → Conclusion

Useful phrases:

• In my opinion, …
• I believe that …
• I strongly agree/disagree that …
• The main reason is that …
• Another important point is that …
• In conclusion, I believe that …
